Java Programming Syllabus

Course Description: Study of the Java language, its features and applications. Students will use a Java compiler on the IBM PC compatible.

Textbook Information: Java: How to Program, Deitel, Pearson, 10^th Ed. ISBN-10: 0-13-380780-0.

Additional Course Information: 1 GB or Larger USB is recommended.

Course Learning Objectives: Attain proficiency with Java Programming. Core competencies covered included writing Java software including loops, data structures, methods, and computer graphics.

Student Learning Objectives:

Successful students will develop problem solving skills employing pattern recognition, transfer of learning and the ability to evaluate choices among solution techniques.

Successful students will recognize when additional information is needed and obtain that material researching outside sources.

Meet Your Instructor: I am a native of Linden, Alabama and have resided here in Los Angeles for the past 4 years. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science at Talladega College in Talladega, AL and my Master of Business Administration at Bethel University in McKenzie, Tennessee. I have worked in higher education in the student support services arena for over 8 years. I have managed several federally funded programs, served as an adjunct instructor for Business Administration, and helped many students throughout my professional career. Currently, I am serving as a computer science adjunct instructor for SAC and full-time CS instructor at LBCC. I have also served as a CS adjunct for El Camino College and Santa Monica College. My goal is to help students succeed in and outside of the classroom and provide guidance towards their career and personal goals.

Interests
I love spending time with family and friends, going to church, and working out. I am constantly seeking ways to inspire others; therefore, I work on myself daily by reading spiritual and success books.
