SAC LogoMath 083 - Syllabus

Course Description:  Beginning and Intermediate Algebra for SLAM Majors

Textbook Information:  OER Math 83 Lesson Packet (available in the SAC Bookstore or as a printable PDF online).

Additional Course Information:
A combined course in algebra that includes systems of equations, inequalities, graphs and functions, radicals, quadratic polynomials, rational expressions, exponential and logarithmic functions, and problem solving aimed specifically at liberal arts and social science majors going into Math 105, Math 204, or Math 219.

Course Learning Objectives:  Math 083 prepares you for the SLAM path in which you take Math 105, 204, or 219.  If you change to the BSTEM path and will be taking Math 140 or 160, you will need to do additional work before you have met the prerequisite.

Student Learning Objectives: Students will be able to construct and analyze consumer graphs; apply linear, quadratic, polynomial, rational, logarithmic, and exponential equations and functions numerically, graphically, or algebraically, in appropriate applications; and find models of best fits for given sets of data.

Meet Your Instructor:  I strive to intertwine mathematics subject matter with everyday applications you may face in real life. Math was never easy for me, but I was always willing to put in the time needed to figure it out. I will create an interactive environment where the students will learn math from doing math. I strive to be the teacher who changes your approach to and perception of mathematics. I graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a degree in pure math in 2004, and earned a Masters of Science in Statistics at CSU Fullerton. I grew up near Yorba Linda, where I attended Esperanza High School. I am married and have a beautiful wife and two daughters.
