Office Hours: 4 - 6p Monday & Wednesday

Course Description:  This course covers AEC 3D Parametric applications for architectural, civil engineering, and construction drawings/documents. Includes BIM concepts, sustainable design, organization of projects, visualization and printing. Suggested preparation: Engineering 142 and 186.

Recommended Textbook: A. Jeffries, & D. A. Madsen. Architectural Drafting and Design, 5th ed. n/a, 2005, ISBN: ISBN10: 1-401.

Assignments: Reading, Db, Quizzes, Practice work, Tests, and Exams.

Db: Each week you could have questions or comments about what we do that you post to the Discussion Board (Db). Similar to raising your hand in class, others will be able to learn from the question and response, so the Db is a handy way for us to interact this way and it is required as part of the points for the course. Any questions of a personal nature, please feel free to email me.

Office location: Check in A107-12 first, but I may be in A225 or A216.
Course Learning Objectives: By the end of this course, students will have produced a series of AEC 3D CAD drawings in a 3D parametric project.

Susan M. Sherod holds a B.S. in Architectural Studies from the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana, IL (3.55 GPA), an M.A. in Industrial and Technical Studies from California State University, Los Angeles (4.0 GPA), and Master of Architecture from NewSchool of Architecture and Design, San Diego, CA (3.93 GPA). Sherod recieved two awards from CSULA: Outstanding Graduate Student, and an Alumni Acheivement Recognition Award.

Sherod began her career in Architecture and is a licensed Architect in the state of CA. Sherod has taught CAD since 1993. Sherod has taught technical drafting since 1995. Topics taught have included math preparation, computer use, web page authoring, architecture, engineering technology and employment preparation studies. Sherod authored online training materials for teachers, and served as consultant to OTAN in 1999. Sherod won a CAROP Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award in 2000.

Sherod joined the staff at Santa Ana College (SAC) Engineering Department in Fall of 2000. Past teaching assignments included College of the Canyons in Valencia, California, an AutoDesk Training Center at College of the Canyons, in Valencia, California, West Valley Occupational Center in Woodland Hills, California and ORT Technical Institute in Sherman Oaks, California. Sherod recieved the CAROP outstanding teacher award in the 1999-2000 school year. Sherod authored html training materials for teachers in 1995, and served as consultant for OTAN, a CA State agency that provides support and technical assistance to teachers of adult learners in 1999.

Since joining Santa Ana College Sherod has created new certificate programs, new courses and revised programs and courses significantly. Sherod has enhanced her courses with the online Learning Management System (LMS) software used by SAC. Sherod wrote a proposal for a grant for curriculum improvement in Summer of 2001 and was awarded a grant to develop one of the classes as 100% online which was the first such course available in the engineering department. This course, ENGR 142, included lecture and lab components all online, but with an in person final exam requirement that at the same time allowed for proctoring for the in person final exam. Sherod has also contributed to the development of a tech-prep website for the SAC Engineering Department. Sherod implemented the 2010 Imperative through all AEC courses to include ecological literacy and reduction of fossil fuel use. Sherod's sabbatical work was focused in the area of Energy Studies. Sherod has served on the Facilities Committee, and anchored the Environmental Task Force for Santa Ana College. Her recommendations are sustainable, money-saving, and proposed solutions include documented savings possible for strategies such as LED tube lamps, solar assisted natural ventilation, and exterior shading options. Sherod has been a member of the Engineering Liaison Council since 2001, and served as the Southern CA representative. Sherod has participated in Statewide Career Pathway Discipline work groups as well as facilitated for them. Sherod has attend LAOCRC meetings in the Energy and Utilities Sector. Sherod's community service efforts began with local cleanups along a river in her high school years. Her service over the years of her career have been memberships and volunteer plus pro-bono work in numerous orgs such as Nature Conservancy, National Wildlife Federation, Tree People, CRSP, Eco-Home Network, Los Angeles Eco-Village, Sierra Club, and Surfrider Foundation, where she served as Intern Coordinator, and then Executive Committee member at a chapter, for several years.

Sherod has completed numerous trainings for online teaching, including SAC's Online teaching Certificate in 2014.  Most recently Sherod completed the LMS Canvas Bronze and Silver Certificates and Badges 2017 training.
