CDEV : 108 Observation & Assessment
Course Description:
CDEV108 introduces students to assessment of children and classroom activities in early childhood settings using anecdotal, rating systems, and structured assessment strategies. CDEV 108 focuses on the appropriate use of assessment strategies to document child development, communicate with parents and professionals, and inform teaching practices to ensure developmentally appropriate curriculum.

Student Learning outcomes include being able to:
- critically compare the purpose and use of formal and informal observation and assessment.
- describe and evaluate the characteristics, strengths and limitations of common assessment tools
- demonstrate observation methods to provide data to assess the impact of the environment, interactions and curriculum on all domains of children’s learning and development.
- assess the value of partnerships with families and other professionals in utilizing interpretations of observational data to inform teaching responses and strategies.
- examines successful steps for succeeding academically and professionally in the field of ECE
