Counseling 107 Syllabus
This course is designed to assist students in making a successful transition to college. Transition topics will include both academic issues and issues related to self-exploration and goal development. Specifically, after successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify their academic and personal goals and develop strategies and a plan for attaining their goals
- Employ effective time management strategies
- Identify their learning styles and employ various learning strategies that complement their learning styles
- Identify and access various student services on campus
- Employ effective test-taking strategies and study skills techniques
The foundation of the course is the idea that students can transfer what they learn in the classroom and experience success in other classes and beyond. The course will encourage lifelong learning and provide an opportunity for integrating the college experience with life experiences.

Course Expectations:
This course is part of a learning community. You must be enrolled English N60 (#39956) in addition to Counseling 107.
Your class participation is expected, welcomed and valued. It is the foundation of this course. Therefore, students are expected to attend each class, arrive on time, and stay the entire session.
Course Policies:
• It is your responsibility to officially withdraw if you decide to drop or stop attending class.
• All assignments are due at the beginning of class. Late assignments will not be accepted. You are encouraged to problem-solve with your instructor if you experience anything outside of class that is hindering or preventing you from doing well in class.
• Attendance and punctuality will affect your final grade. The instructor reserves the right to drop any student whose absences exceed 10% of the total scheduled hours of class.
• Respect the instructor and each other by staying engaged in class. Active learning is expected. Turn off all cell phones.
• All work submitted must be the work of the student. Academic honesty is expected at all times.
