Course Description: 

This is an ONLINE Hybrid course. We have Five required meetings on MONDAYS 1:20PM-3:50PM (August 28, September 18, October 16, November 13, December 11)  in room D-302 at Santa Ana College for classroom instruction and to take exams.

Independent study is crucial and organization certainly help  to be successful in class. The recommended time to spend outside the classroom reviewing all the materials per chapter is about 5-6 hours per week. Excellent study habits are necessary to be successful in this course.Obviously, people learn at different rates and some people will need additional practice. Required Texts: We are going to hit the ground running. You must get the book immediately!!!

  • Dorwick, et al. Puntos de partida: Volume 1, (10th edition). McGraw-Hill, 2016.
    • We are keenly aware of the  escalating  costs  of books, and we worked with the publishers to reduce them. We ordered a CUSTOM split volume edition with an electronic CODE fro the lab book. The SAC custom Edition book is available at the SAC bookstore. The instructor will discuss the possibility (and requirements) of using an e-book in class.

Spanish 101- Puntos de Partida- Fall 2017

Be sure to read and prepare in advance all the materials to be covered for each meeting. The textbook covers vocabulary, grammar, reading strategies, grammar exercises, and cultural information. The online lab materials offer additional practice in all the mentioned areas via audio video, listening, and written formats.

Meet Your Instructor:

My name is Araceli Calderón. My passion is to teach Spanish and I have done so for over 15 years at the high school, community college, and university level. I am an engaged instructor who seeks professional development in order to best meet the needs of my students. It is my mission to ensure that my students have a positive experience in the class. In addition to being an instructor at different institutions, I am a student in the Phd program in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at UCI. My dissertation will be entitled "Ideologies of motherhood in visual and narrative texts that portray the Mexican Revolution." I was recently awarded a fellowship from UC Mexus that allowed me to conduct research in Mexico City for two months. If you are interested, I am always happy to share my professional and educational experience.
