Course Description:  Freshman Composition

Textbook Information:  Seeing and Writing 4, McQuade and McQuade; Rules of Thumb: Guide for Writers, Silverman; Gone Baby Gone, Lehane; Hero with a Thousand Faces, Campbell (opt.)

Additional Course Information:  Four in class meetings: 8/28, 10/2, 10/30, 11/27 from 3:00-4:50 in room I-207

Student Learning Objectives:  Students will use the writing process to write, in MLA format, academic essays, including a documented research paper, using appropriately chosen details, organizational strategies, more complex sentence variety, and sufficiently correct grammar, punctuation, effective word choice, and style. Students will be able to read critically for literal and implied meaning, identify main ideas, organizational strategies and authors' writing strategies as well as summarize, paraphrase, and analyze written works. Students will evaluate and ethically use primary and secondary sources to avoid plagiarism and will use the library's resources, including online databases.

Meet Your Instructor:  I have been an English instructor at SAC for over seventeen years. I enjoy camping, reading, writing and am excited that the Dodgers finally look like they have a shot at the World Series this year.
