Course Description
Learn the basics of the Microsoft Office, suite of applications including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. Acquire skills for creating, formatting, printing and editing business documents.
Student Learning Outcomes
By completing this course, students will learn, develop skills, and become proficient using current business standards and techniques to meet current employment requirements in the following:
- Word: Manage business communications.
- PowerPoint: Deliver professional presentations.
- Excel: Apply skills and tools in business problem solving; effective data display with charts; retrieve data for computation, analysis, and reference.
- Access: Automate and organize data management; collect data with well-designed forms; develop effective reports.
Attendance Policy
In accordance with the college drop policy, students who do not attend the first 2 meetings, and submit the first assignment on Canvas by the due date of the first week of instruction will be dropped as a “No Show”. Excessive Absence is two consecutive weeks of non-participation by the student (submitting assignments and completing quizzes – logging in only does NOT count as participation) or a total of 4 absences during the first 12 weeks of the semester. Students are responsible to officially drop the class or they will receive a letter grade based on their performance.

Please email me if you have any questions at morgan_adam@sac.edu. I respond to emails within 48 hours Monday through Friday. Emails received over the weekend will be answered on Monday. You can also add general questions to the “Questions” discussion board, these are not private.
Assignments /Assessments
See Dates on the course calendar. All work is submitted through Canvas. No late work is accepted. Discussion Boards are worth 10 points. 4 Points for your initial post, which must be written by Wednesday night each week. After that, respond to two other classmate’s posts by the following week’s class on Monday. The two responses are with 3 points each. All responses should answer the questions, using 2-5 sentences. Remember to look at the netiquette rules before using the discussion board. A link to the netiquette rules is on our course home page. Please see the “How are Assignments Graded” link in the Course Information section on Canvas for more info.
Testing and Grading
90% - 100% A 450-500 Points
80% - 89% B 400-449 Points
70% - 79% C 350-399 Points
60% - 69% D 300-349 Points
0% - 59% F 0-299 Points
Deadlines
All assignments including quizzes must be completed by the date listed on Canvas, usually Sunday at Midnight. See the assignment schedule for details.
Honesty/Integrity Policy
In cases where a violation of academic honesty is discovered, the faculty member is encouraged to file an "Academic Misconduct Incident Report" form and distribute the form to the appropriate offices listed.
There are two categories of sanctions: Limited and College-wide. Limited sanctions include an academic action such as assigning a lower grade or a grade of "F" for the assignment, project, or test. College-wide sanctions include any sanction that will affect a student's standing with the college-at-large, up to and including suspension or expulsion from the college.

Course Site (Canvas)
Our course can be accessed at http://rsccd.Canvas.com. Link at top of sac.edu web site. The student is expected to monitor the Canvas web site for announcements, updates, and complete all assignments on a time schedule. Students are expected to login at least once a week to view posting of next assignment, submit assignment, AND complete quizzes.

Online Learning Preparation & Expectations
This course is geared for students who are self-directed, able to manage their time, and have basic computer skills. It is mandatory to be able to use the Internet and type all assignments. Complete the “SAC Student Online Orientation” under “My Organizations” on the Canvas home page to become familiar with using Canvas. This is a college level course. Many students expect that an online course will be easier or entail less time. That is NOT true. This online class will take just as much time as a traditional classroom course. This course is 4 units!
Accommodations for Disabilities
A student with a disability, who would like to request an academic accommodation, is responsible for identifying herself/himself to the instructor and to the Disabled Student Programs and Services (DSPS).
