Required Materials:

Register at CodeHS

  • I'm excited to announce that we'll be learning how to program using CodeHS. I've provided a link below to help you get started, hopefully you are as excited as I am to begin. CodeHS is FREE, we will mostly be using it when we get to the coding part of the course (2nd module) as it will allow you to submit and practice code without a third-party software.

    Sign up using the following link: https://codehs.com/go/9D0EA

  • Registration through CodeHS (free, see link above, this site will offer lessons and videos)
  • Dreamweaver (an html developer tool via Adobe CC, you want this tool, it will allow you to submit, develop and preview html files, and submit your entire site database at the end of the course)
  • An account via Wix, Weebly and Wordpress (these sites are free, and you can delete your accounts after the course ends, these sites will be addressed to offer you glimpses into other Content Management Systems that you might be exposed to as a designer)

Regular internet access.

  • This is absolutely necessary to receive announcements, emails, and complete graded activities via Canvas. Much correspondence will be done digitally. Please verify your email address is accurate via WebAdvisor as you cannot change your email address in Canvas.
  • If you do not have reliable internet access at home, an alternative would be to schedule hours here on campus to work in the Academic Computing Center.

Grades:

Grading Policy: Grades for each assignment will be based on how well the work meets the assignment objectives as discussed in the assignment description and grading rubric. Evaluation will include the demonstration of skills as demonstrated through course resources, craftsmanship, following directions, and conceptual vision. For full credit, work must be turned in on time. If you are unavailable on an assignment due date, it is your responsibility to deliver your work to me prior to the due date, otherwise it will be counted as a LATE assignment. Rubrics will be made available for every assignment that requires one. Some assignments are completion based, it this is the case, the rubric has points associated with the number of tasks or questions asked of the student and therefore will not require a rubric.

All assignments will become unavailable one week after the scheduled due date, and will not be reopened.

Assignment Submissions: Assignments will only be accepted via Canvas submission. Absolutely no assignments may be submitted via email. No exceptions to this will be made. If an assignment is not submitted to Canvas by the closing of the course, the assignment will not be graded and will receive a '0'.

Grades will be based on a percentage of points earned over the semester:

A = 90-100% Excellent

B = 80-89% Good

C = 70-79% Average

D = 60-69% Below Average

F = 0-59% Failed
