Course Description:
In this class, you will increase your fluency in spoken American English, improve your listening skills, learn essential vocabulary, and practice American English conversational strategies. Additionally, you will acquire oral communication skills that will prepare you for Communication Studies 101 and other transfer courses.

Course Learning Objectives:
- Evaluate the communication process to include listener/speaker role, noise and feedback.
- Identify the steps of the perception process.
- Identify and describe cultural patterns across the United States in order to recognize differences across cultures.
- Analyze American nonverbal communication.
- Recognize appropriate levels of self-disclosure.
- Apply and practice expository speaking in groups and individual formats.
Student Learning Objectives:
- Use presentation skills that are appropriate in American classrooms and other American settings.
- Listen to recorded and live lectures and news broadcasts with higher comprehension.
- Select necessary and appropriate communication behaviors that will help accomplish students’ intended communicative function.
