Course Description: Theory, operation, diagnosis, and maintenance of automotive engine and body electrical systems. Use of wiring diagrams is highlighted. Safe and correct use of tools and equipment in the shop by students is emphasized. Students must furnish approved safety glasses. This course assists the student in preparation for the A6 Electrical/Electronics) ASE certification exam. 5 units. 144 hours (72 Lecture, 72 Laboratory), transferable to CSU.

Course Learning Objectives:
• Identify electrical safety hazards found on modern vehicles.
• Examine electrical connectors, harnesses, and terminals for condition.
• Demonstrate digital meter use on vehicle circuits.
• Analyze vehicle codes found through scan tool testing.
• Test for battery and charging system concerns.
• Inspect condition of various modern lighting systems.
• Show a working knowledge of locating service information.
• Solve electrical concerns using on-line vehicle schematics and diagrams.
• Explain the operation of common body electrical systems.
• Demonstrate electrical/electronic tasks as specified by ASE (NATEF).
