Course Description:
This course is an introduction to the safe practices, setup, and operation of Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Flux-Cored Arc Welding, Gas tungsten arc welding and oxy-fuel cutting. Topics will include machine settings, basic electricity, welding theory, welding symbols, and basic inspection. This course is designed for students that are seeking welding knowledge and skills.

Course Learning Objectives:
- Pass the SAC welding department safety test with 100% accuracy.
- Recognize, analyze, and apply a standard of safety rules and practices pertaining to welding equipment, work habits, and industry standards
- Write and perform according to a written welding procedure specification.
- Perform Shielded Metal Arc Welding processes using the four electrode groups in the flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead.
- Perform Flux-Cored Arc welding processes in different positions
- Identify the five basic types of welding joints according to the American Welding Society classification of Welding joints.
- Identify and interpret basic welding symbols according to the American Welding Society's Standard Symbols for Welding.
- Identify the different welding electrodes for each process.
- Identify filler material for each welding process according to the American Welding Society's Classification of Electrodes.
- Identify and define welding discontinuities and defects of each process.
- Identify proper tools and equipment for oxy-fuel cutting.
- Perform safe setup and operation of oxy-fuel cutting equipment.
