Auto 102 - Automotive Essentials Syllabus
Course Description: Intended for automotive majors. Introduction to the primary automotive systems used on modern vehicles. Theory, parts nomenclature, and description of system operation are emphasized. 3.0 units, 54 hours lecture, transferable to CSU.

Student Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course a student will be able to:
• Measure engine components using automotive style micrometers.
• Solve conversion problems for units of measurement.
• Explain the theory of conventional engine operation.
• Identify the basic types of electrical circuits found in automobiles.
• Summarize the function of the automotive battery and charging system.
• Compare various types of automotive fuels.
• Discuss the operation of the primary fuel system components.
• Identify the major emissions control devices and systems.
