Course Description:  This course will provide advanced clinical practice experience with children, adolescents and/or adults with a variety of communicative disorders in a clinical setting.  It will provide opportunities for clinical application of principles learned from coursework and for carrying out speech-language pathology assistant responsibilities of observation, implementation of screening procedures, administration of treatment protocols, maintenance of clinical documentation and computation of clinical data under the supervision of a licensed and/or credentialed speech-language pathologist.

Course Learning Objectives:
1. Students will demonstrate satisfactory ability performing as a speech-language pathology assistant by following documented treatment plans, assisting a Speech-Language Pathologist in service delivery, accurately documenting client performance, accurately recording data and preparing materials for clients.

2. Students will demonstrate strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills as related to the field of Speech-Language Pathology.

3. Students will uphold ethical behavior as outlined in the ASHA Code of Ethics and demonstrate maintenance of client confidentiality.

4. Students will follow health and safety precautions and implement appropriate infection control procedures and universal precautions consistent with the employer’s standards and guidelines.

Student Learning Objectives:
Students will demonstrate intermediate to advanced skills performing as a speech language pathology assistant by following documented treatment plans, assisting a speech language pathologist in service delivery, accurately documenting client performance, accurately recording data and preparing materials, demonstrating appropriate written and oral communication, interpersonal skills, ethical behaviors and health and safety precautions.
