***This class is conducted on the SAC campus and will meet at various locations during the semester including; weight rooms, gymnasium, athletic fields, and other areas of campus.

Description

This class is designed to prepare the college football athletes to play offense, defense, and special teams. The focus is on skill development and conditioning through resistance training and field work.

Units

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
1.      Apply beginning level performance-related fitness techniques of power lifting.
2.      Recognize sports conditioning principles and terminology of performance-related fitness.
3.      Express the relationship between speed and agility training and the components performance-related fitness.
4.      Demonstrate competence in many; speed, agility, and power drills.
5.      Select a sport specific performance-related skills test to assess one of the components of performance-related fitness.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Upon completion of this course, students will be:

  • Able to differentiate between moderate activity and high intensity training to improve health and prevent disease onset.

 

  • Competent at performing linear, non-linear, and jumping movements.

 

CLASS ATTIRE:  Please wear comfortable and appropriate clothing for vigorous fitness activity. Athletic shoes with good support are recommended.

SAFETY:

  • Listen and ask questions about dynamic exercises to prevent injury.
  • If you hurt yourself during class time, please let the instructor/coach know immediately.

 

SUGGESTIONS FOR SUCCESS:  You will do well if you participate and show enthusiasm.  Communicate with the instructor if you have any health issues or concerns so we can address them and move forward.  I will try to modify any type of exercise, so please share with me if you need help or are uncomfortable at any time.

CLASS FORMAT:

  • The class emphasizes advanced instruction of fundamentals/techniques of power lifting, linear, non-linear agilities, and Jumping
  • Individual and group skill instruction in all aspects of conditioning
  • Drills to improve cardiovascular conditioning,
  • Compliance of team rules

 

ATTENDANCE:

  • Attendance is mandatory and will be taken at the beginning of each class period.
