Course Syllabus: Biology 115 Syllabus

Course Description Biology 115 is a course designed to introduce the student to the basic principles of Biology and Science with content appropriate for future K-6 teachers. The course material is presented within the context of the human experience and covers cell biology, physiology, genetics, evolution, ecology and the interaction of humans and the environment. The course is taught from an inquiry-based strategy using active learning techniques.
Textbook Information: Biological Perspectives, Biological Science Curriculum Study (BSCS) Kendall/ Hunt Publishing Co, (Third Edition)
and Concepts in Biology for Educators Lab Handouts.
Additional Course Information: A bound lab notebook that has graph paper will be required for the lab.
Course Learning Objectives: The student will be able to analyze and interpret scientific information and communicate scientific ideas and concepts to others.
Student Learning Objectives:
1. Students will learn the basics of the technical vocabulary of biology.
2. Students will develop their ability to comprehend readings on biological subjects.
3. Students will develop their critical thinking skills by evaluating scientific evidence to reach valid conclusions.
