Course Information:

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES—Student Learning Outcomes. These will be the goals we shall pursue together this semester to allow you a better understanding of the Broadcast Journalism profession and to prepare you for a career in it or a related media field:

 

Students will develop a working, hands-on knowledge of all aspects of TV news production including:

  1. Broadcast News Writing Style
  2. Development of interesting and informative news, sports, and feature story leads.
  3. Develop effective news interviews.
  4. Effective field reporting/field production techniques.
  5. Story editing.
  6. An understanding of the techniques and role of the anchorperson.
  7. Mastering in-studio production skills including learning such positions as news producer, director, technical director, audio engineer, video operator, floor manager, cameraperson, Teleprompter operator, and graphics designers.
  8. Ethical and legal preparation for handling the world of professional broadcast news.
