Professional Nerd and part time Digital Arts Professor Nate Little earned his MFA from Claremont Graduate University in 2012. Nate is a proud Santa Ana College alumni and was an Editor, Designer and Illustrator for SAC's iconic elDon Newspaper during his time as a student. Outside the classroom Nate works as an Art Director, Entrepreneur, Graphic Designer, Puppeteer and Woodworker. 

Course Description:

Art 122 and Art 168 are moderate to advanced level courses grounded graphic design concepts, techniques and practices and their applications in various industries. Over the term students will experience a variety of real-world design challenges in a project-based learning environment. The course also features a focus on operating in a collaborative creative environment centered on peer feedback with an emphasis on personal growth as digital artists and designers.

Most course days will feature a combination of training demos, lecture, discussion and lab time, as such regular attendance is paramount to one’s success in the course.

Structurally, the course is broken up into 3 sections:

  • Branding and Products - Designing branding and the application in promotional products in a wide range of media.

  • Print media - understanding the core principles of layout for print media in a variety of application

  • Challenges - weekly design challenges framed as a combination of a visual theme and a speci c media output.

    The goal of the course is for each student to end the term with a comprehensive portfolio that is suitable future academic and employment applications. As such the course nal involves development of said portfolio with a review from industry professionals.

Textbook Information:  No Textbook is required for this course, if you're interested in comprehensive training outside of class time there are many free tutorials available online.
