Course Description: This course examines the major physical, psycho social, and cognitive/language developmental milestones for children, from conception through adolescence. Using developmental theories & research methodologies, course emphasis will be on typical and atypical development, maturation processes & environmental factors. Students will also observe children, evaluate individual differences and analyze characteristics of development at various stages.
The course is divided into five (5) major sections:
- Introduction to Development
- Conception to Toddlers (birth to 2 years old)
- Preschoolers (2 to 7 years old)
- Middle Childhood (7 to 11 years old)
Adolescence (11 to 17 years old)
