Course Description: Sentence structure and paragraph writing including reading-based modeling and integrated study skills. Not applicable to associate degree. Students may be referred to the Learning Center.

Course Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of English N60, students will be able to:
- Read, analyze, and evaluate a variety of readings for content, form, and context.
- Apply a variety of rhetorical modes in both informal and formal writings that demonstrate use of the recursive writing process.
- Write paragraphs in MLA format exhibiting acceptable college-level control of mechanics, organization, development, and coherence.
- Proofread and edit paragraphs for presentation so that they exhibit few disruptive errors in English grammar, usage, or punctuation.
Additional Student Learning Objectives:
In addition, at the conclusion of this course, students will be able to:
- Write an in-class reading response that combines summary and opinion, based on specific evidence from the text;
- Contribute to an academic conversation by offering examples, questions, and/or personal experience/knowledge;
- Write a short essay that demonstrates an understanding of the proper format for introductory paragraphs, paraburgers, and concluding paragraphs;
- Confront common college writing assignments without feeling overly-stressed by knowing when and how to use different formats of writing.
