Course Description: In The 21st Century, we are constantly bombarded by photographs and cameras. What separates us as photographers from the greater population that can easily access the same technology? In this class we will learn the process of intelligent, careful picture making while deconstructing the digital camera and its parts. We will apply technical camera skills to a series of creative projects and explore the power and meaning behind the image. By covering a firm foundation in image handling, processing and post production in Adobe Lightroom, we will understand the process from camera to computer to printer and learn how to control some of the many parameters in photography. As a class, we will investigate the contemporary issues at stake in photography today and the greater multimedia world at large. Finally, we will engage with and discuss the work of photographers past and present and develop a professional, critical language relevant to our own work.
