Meet Your Instructor
My name is Zack Fish, and I've been a professor of philosophy at Santa Ana College since 2004. In additional to Critical Thinking, I also teach Introduction to Philosophy, Ethics, Introductory Logic, and History of Philosophy. I attended University of California-Riverside and my hometown school, the University of New Orleans.
Course Description
Beginning course in formal and applied logic. Covers cognitive language, formal argument, proof, basic propositional and predicate logic, and philosophy of logic. Emphasizes active student involvement and practical application to college life.
Student Learning Objectives
- To identify, reconstruct, and analyze logical arguments, including conclusions, premises, and implicit assumptions, within reading passages.
- To identify, explain, and provide corrections for common logical errors.
- To recognize the underlying logical structure of written sentences and arguments, and, more broadly, to understand the relationship between logic and language.
- To think and work in a methodical, systematic, and precise manner in order to solve complex logical problems.
