Math 084 Syllabus
Course Description:
A combined course in algebra that includes systems of equations, inequalities, graphs and functions, radicals, quadratic polynomials, rational expressions, exponential and logarithmic functions, and problem solving aimed specifically at liberal arts and social science majors. Students are expected to use their prerequisite basic algebra skills from Pre-Algebra (Math N48).
Textbook Information:
- Elementary and Intermediate Algebra 4th edition, Sullivan, Struve, Mazzarella, Pearson.
You can either use the hard covered textbook or the e-version of the text. The e-version is included in the MyMathLab software. These items are available in the campus bookstore or online directly from the publisher from our MyMathLab course site. You will log into MyMathLab for this course using the MyLab and Mastering link on this Canvas course page. You cannot enter the online classroom from the MyMathLab Website. You will begin the course using the temporary 14 day free access option.
Course Learning Objectives:
Students will be able to accurately use estimation to determine whether a given answer is reasonable; apply problem solving techniques to every day situations; computer percent increase/decrease; compute simple and compound interest; and apply empirical and theoretical probability to given situations.
Student Learning Objectives:
Students will be able to manipulate, analyze, and solve linear, quadratic, polynomial, rational, logarithmic, and exponential equations and functions graphically or algebraically; and solve appropriate applications.
