Discussions

located on Canvas

Regular participation is expected and is a significant component of your grade. To receive points for participation, you must post a response to my “Get to Know Me” reply and chapter posts; these posts should be thoughtful responses, consisting of at least 5-7 (minimum) spell-checked and grammar-checked sentences – complete sentences (not phrases). When you are finished with your response, post a 4-6 (minimum) sentence comment to the post of at least one other student.

All due dates are listed on the last page of this syllabus – please check your course calendar section of this syllabus for specific dates for your assignments. The “Get to Know Me” reply is due before 11 pm on Wednesday, during our first week. All chapter replies/posts are due before 11 pm on Wednesdays. All student comments are due before 11 pm on Sundays.

As students complete their work at various times and days, most posts will not be graded until the days following the assignment’s due date. Quick note: Discussion assignments will be submitted on Canvas and they will be available through our ‘Modules’ tab.

There are two types of ‘tests’ in this class: mini quizzes and chapter quizzes. Each question, for each quiz, is worth 3 points; you have 3 attempts to earn as many of those points as possible. All quiza assignments are due by 11 pm PST on Sundays. Quizzes do not have a time limit – isn’t there enough stress in your life as it is?

Important!

In accordance with the college drop policy, students who do not access the class web site or submit the “first assignments” by the due date may be dropped as a no show. Students who fail to turn in the weekly assignments and or participate in the discussion boards will be considered “absent” and may be dropped from the class for “excessive absence.” Students are responsible to officially drop the class or they will receive a letter grade based on their performance.

  • No Show Drop: You must complete all of the Week 1 activities (listed within the “Week One” Module in Canvas by the due dates designated for each activity, or you will be dropped as a “No Show”
  • Excessive Absence Drop: If two consecutive weeks of non‐participation is observed by the instructor the student will be dropped.
