Course Description: 

This course provides opportunity for students to learn the basic mechanics and navigation tools of an Excel spreadsheet.  Students are expected to demonstrate these skills through the course’s assignments.  The skills gained in these course will likely make the student more eligible for promotions and/or better compensated roles in the future.

Textbook Information: 

Microsoft Excel 2016 – Benchmark Series Level 1 by Nita Rutkosky, Audrey Roggenkamp and Ian Rutkosky.  Paradigm Publishing - ISBN 9780763869908

Software: the College provide all active students with college email addresses and access to Microsoft 365 for no additional charge at the college’s information technology page.  You can also go to College Buys for a discount price of Microsoft Office software.

Course Learning Objectives: 

This course will provide the student an introduction to the tools, formulas, and functions available in Microsoft Excel.  The knowledge and skilled gained through this course will prepare the student for the Microsoft Office Specialist Excel test.

  1. Input, modify, and move data within Excel spreadsheets
  2. Insert formulas to Excel spreadsheets
  3. Create charts and format Excel spreadsheets for improved visual presentation
