Class Time:
Tuesdays, Thursdays 10:20- 11:45 a.m.
Office Hours:
Tuesdays 8:50 - 10:20 a.m, 2:30 - 3:30 p.m.
Wednesdays 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Thursdays 8:50 - 10:20 a.m.
STRUCTURE AND GRADING
Your final grade in the class is based on the following criteria: tests/quizzes, concert reports, class presentations, and class attendance. We will have five written tests (100 points each) and five quizzes (40 points each). In addition, two concert reports are required (50 points each). Your participation in a class presentation (200 points) will be added to your final grade. Class attendance is mandatory. If you miss more than six classes, you will not be able to pass the class. I do not offer makeup tests unless there is a good reason for your absence. You must either call and leave a message on my voice mail or e-mail me before the class time. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Course Learning Objectives: This course is designed to increase students’ understanding and appreciation of music, with emphasis on the European classical tradition. Students in this class will gain a deeper experience of classical music through classroom and online presentations, textbook reading, and through the experience of listening to live and recorded music.
