Introduction to Curriculum for Young Children 111B Syllabus

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course emphasizes techniques for choosing and implementing developmentally and culturally appropriate activities and fostering creativity in all curriculum areas of the preschool setting. Prerequisite: Child Development 111A.


STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES: Upon successful completion of CDEV 111B a student will be able to:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of different philosophical approaches to teaching young children.
2. Become familiar with important strategies and techniques for effective teaching.
3. Become familiar with all curriculum areas and some guidelines on how these can be presented in such a way that developmental and cultural needs are met.
4. Locate, assemble and organize resource tools for use in the workplace.
5. Discuss key elements that support the value of play-based curriculum which provide for exploration, discovery and repetition.
