Course Description:
This is a one semester course designed to introduce the fundamentals of chemistry to the non-science major. The primary focus of the course will be to provide students with a better understanding of consumer and environmental issues as they relate to chemistry. An emphasis will be placed on chemistry-related current events and common consumer products.
The course will consist of 6 hours of lecture and 6 hours of lab each week. Laboratory is mandatory! All experiments will be completed AT HOME using the eScience Lab kit.

Student Learning Objectives:
As with any course, a key student-learning outcome is the mastery of the course content. With this course content mastery, students will also develop the following skills:
- Students will demonstrate proficiency and knowledge of course content during periodic exams and quizzes throughout the semester.
- Students will be able to provide clear and concise written and/or oral explanations of chemical concepts using appropriate scientific language and writing style during exams, oral presentations or in online forums.
- Students will demonstrate knowledge of laboratory safety, be able to show familiarity with basic lab equipment, and employ proper laboratory technique during the successful completion of laboratory experiments.
