Course Description: In this course, an historical examination of decorative apparel techniques is used to adapt and modernize fabric embellishment for fashion today. Students will gain broad knowledge of many hand sewing techniques and demonstrate acquired skills via a portfolio of embellishment swatches with the option to embellish a pre-constructed garment.

SUPPLY LIST:
- 1-2 yards Basic Woven Fabric (muslin or similar) for Notebook Samples
- 1-2 yards light weight fusible interfacing
- Seam Ripper
- Straight Pins (#21 extra fine Precision Point Pins or similar)
- Pin Cushion (can also be magnetic)
- Fabric shears
- Hand sewing needles (assorted gauges/ thicknesses)
- Marking tools (tailor’s chalk, chalk pens, etc.)
- Ruler (18” clear, C-thru)
- Tool storage tote
- 4 inch or 6 inch embroidery hoop (plastic or wooden)
- Embroidery floss (5-10 skeins) in a variety of colors
- Medium to Large 3-Ring Binder or similar
- Sheet Protectors
- Fabric and notions for projects to be discussed in class per your individual needs
