Course Rules for Success
- Attendance: Attendance and punctuality are mandatory. Your performance in this class is based on your participation in activities and your personal efforts. You are expected to attend all class meetings and roll will be taken during class. The expectation is that you will email the instructor before missing any class.
- Participation: This course is designed for you. It is important for you to take an active role in your learning. You may find it difficult or uncomfortable to actively participate in class discussions or small group activities at first; however, it is one of the most important skills to learn in college. Remember you will get out of the course what you put into it. Group participation is critical for this course. Students who do not participate in class will be considered absent and will be informed of this by the instructor.
- Assignments: In order to fully participate in class discussions, you will need to complete assigned readings and activities before coming to class.
- Cell Phone/Electronic Devices Policy: All cellular phones, iPods, mp3 players etc. must be turned off and put away during class time. This means no checking messages, receiving and answering calls, or text messaging. No earphones!
- Respect is the most important policy in this class. Please demonstrate respect for other’s differences, lifestyles, perspectives, and ideas. As well, respect your instructor, teacher assistants and any faculty member that comes into contact with you or this class.

Late Assignments/Make-up Policy All homework assignments are due at the beginning of class on the assigned due date (see tentative schedule on last page of this syllabus for due dates). Late assignments will not be accepted. (Exceptions: If you have contacted me, prior to the start of the class, informing me that you are not attending and the reason why, due to an extenuating circumstance.) Academic Honesty Policy Students at Santa Ana College are expected to be honest and forthright in their academic endeavors. To falsify the results of one’s research, to steal the words or idea of another, or to cheat on an examination, corrupts the essential process by which knowledge is advanced. Academic dishonesty is seen as an intentional act of fraud, in which a student seeks to claim credit for the work or efforts of another without authorization, or uses unauthorized materials or fabricated information in any academic exercise. As institutions, we also consider academic dishonesty to include forgery of academic documents, intentionally impeding or damaging the academic work of others, assisting other students in acts of dishonesty or coercing students into acts of dishonesty. Grading
My intention is to give you as much control over your final grade as possible. I want you to choose the grade you want and then perform the actions necessary to earn that grade.
A = 90-100% D = 60-69%
B = 80-89% F = 59% and below
C = 70-79%

Meet Your Instructor: Stephanie Sachs, Counselor
Course Description: This course is designed to assist students in successfully establishing and achieving an education, career, and life goals. Students are guided through a reflective process that focuses on values, interests, personality, skills and learning styles. Career and education options are researched, and students are exposed to college resources and support services. Decision-making models and goal setting techniques are examined and will be used to develop short and long-term education, and career and life plans.
Course Learning Objectives:
Personal Awareness- Gain a better understanding of yourself and your environment
Personal Exploration- Understand the variable that affects life choices
Career Exploration- Integrate information about yourself with the world of work
Career Goals_ Clarify goals on the basis of occupational preferences and values
