Course Objectives:

- In this class, you will work to increase your ability to compose academically successful paragraphs and essays that will be similar to written assignments you may complete for other classes. In order to achieve these goals, this class will focus on effective writing techniques and critical thinking. During in-class workshops, you will gain an understanding to the benefits of prewriting, revising your work, and proofreading your assignment before submission. The written assignments in this class will emphasize core concepts in expository composition.

Additional Course Information:  Additionally, please note that this class will move quickly despite it meeting for a longer amount of time. The goal of this course is to have you prepared for English 101 in sixteen weeks. So, it is strongly encouraged that you manage your time effectively to take advantage of this course.

Student Learning Objectives:

-Students will be able to read critically for literal meaning and identify the main idea of a reading and the author’s writing strategies as well as summarize and paraphrase effectively.

- Students will use the writing process to write, in proper MLA format, essays, including a documented paper, using appropriately chosen details, organizational strategies, sentence variety, and sufficiently correct grammar and punctuation.

- Students will ethically integrate and document source material.
