COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course will emphasize walking/jogging for health and fitness for men and women who are interested in instruction and practice in cardiovascular walking/jogging. This class is designed to improve health and total body toning through aerobic conditioning.
STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:
- Students will be able to explain the benefit of walking/jogging as a lifelong activity to promote a healthy lifestyle and cardiovascular fitness.
- Students will analyze the reasons for different training systems and their effects on the human organism.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
- To introduce the student to various types of exercises.
- To improve health and total body toning through aerobic walking/jogging.
- To gain exposure to healthy choices in food and exercise.
ATTENDANCE:
Please e-mail or call if you are absent. It is the student’s responsibility to withdraw officially from a course. However, a student may be dropped by the instructor when the student does not appear at the first class meeting. Regular attendance is required. A student may also be dropped for excessive absences when the total hours of absence exceed 10% of the total scheduled hours of the class. Under extenuating circumstances, a student may be reinstated by the instructor.
GRADING: 30 class meetings x 5 skilled performance points=150 points
3 Exercise Testing x 20 points=60 points
Assignments 4 x 15 points=60 points
Mid-term/Final=30 points=30 points
CLASS ATTIRE: Appropriate and comfortable clothing you can wear for vigorous fitness activity. An athletic shoe with good support is recommended.

- Listen for directions on doing exercises so they are done properly.
- If you hurt yourself during class time, please let the instructor know immediately.
COURSE INFORMATION:
- The instructor of this class reserves the right to request a student enroll in another class and/or activity if this class proves too difficult or if the student’s safety is in jeopardy because of their skill/fitness level.
- The following physical fitness course may involve strenuous exercise and may cause bodily injury. All participants should be in good physical condition. A medical examination is suggested prior to any strenuous physical activity.
- Non-enrolled students are not permitted to use the facility or wait in the classroom for a friend to finish his or her workout. CHILDREN ARE NOT ALLOWED.
- Cell phones should be turned off in the classroom.
- Shower facilities and lockers are available. Students must supply their own combination lock.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS: All Students are required to attend class on a regular basis. 5 Points will be given to students on a daily basis for meeting the following requirements.
- Attending class ON TIME.
- Staying the allotted time period.
- Participation.
- Demonstrate correctly written documentation of your workout.
- You must be an active participant for at least 75% of the class time.

- Please look both directions before you cross any street. Always use the crosswalks when permitted.
SUGGESTIONS FOR SUCCESS: You will do well if you participate and show enthusiasm. Communicate with the instructor if you have any health issues or concerns so we can address them and move forward. We usually can modify any type of exercise, so please share with me if you need help in doing so.
YOUR IDEAS/SUGGESTIONS: In general, your ideas, comments, suggestions, questions, grade challenges, etc. are welcome. However, your discretion in these matters is expected. No part of your grade will be based on anything other than your coursework. You are encouraged to take advantage of instructor office hours for help with coursework. Please do not hesitate I am here to help you succeed.

ACADEMIC HONESTY POLICY:
Students at Santa Ana College are expected to be honest and forthright in their academic endeavors. To falsify the results of one’s research, to steal the words or ideas of another, or to cheat on an examination, corrupts the essential process by which knowledge is advanced. Academic dishonesty is seen as an intentional act of fraud, in which a student seeks to claim credit for the work or efforts of another without authorization, or uses unauthorized materials or fabricated information in any academic exercise.
