Course Description:

This course is designed to assist students in successfully establishing and achieving education, career, and life goals.  Students are guided through a reflective process that focuses on values, interests, personality, skills, and learning styles.  Career and education options are researched, and students are exposed to college resources and support services.  Decision making models and goal setting techniques are examined and will be used to develop short and long term education, and career and life plans.

Course Learning Objectives: 

Students will develop and strengthen the following skills:

  • Personal Awareness- Gain a better understanding of yourself and your environment
  • Personal Exploration- Understand the variables that affect life choices
  • Career Exploration- Integrate information about yourself with the world and work
  • Career Goals- Clarify goals on the basis of occupational preferences and values
  • Career Planning- Develop a career plan to achieve individual goals 

Student Learning Objectives:

Students who activity engage in class, complete class activities and assignments will be able to:

  • Identify a potential career pathway using personality and interest assessments, along with online databases
  • Develop a comprehensive educational plan to complete a degree, transfer pathway, or certificate
  • Demonstrate transferable skills through the development of a resume
  • Evaluate thoughts and feelings regarding a career and major pathways
