Course Description:
This course is an introduction to the basic principles for the establishment, operation, supervision and evaluation of early care and education programs. Students will have the opportunity to explore about state and federal mandatory rules and regulations, as well as practice problem solving techniques used by professionals who are administrating early childhood centers.

Every student is an important part of the class learning environment; please make every effort to attend class, to be prompt, to be fully engaged and ready to participate. Etiquette Expectations:
- All students are expected to thoroughly read required assignments prior to the class for which they are assigned.
- Students are expected to (1) participate regularly in class discussion and online Canvas discussion board: (2) engage in constructive critical dialogue with members of the group; and (3) participate in roundtable and small group discussions.
- Students are expected to arrive on time and stay for the entire class time.
- All cell phones must be silenced during class time.
- Each student is expected to demonstrate their knowledge of the readings by making pertinent contributions, provide respectful active listening, and allow all class members to be heard with equity.
- Each student is responsible for all information presented during class time, and all announcements posted in Canvas.
Course Learning Objectives:
1. Compare and contrast various program structures, philosophies and curriculum models.
2. Identify strategies to ensure equity and respect for children, families, staff and colleagues.
3. Summarize systems and methods to support sound fiscal operations in a variety of ECE settings.
4. Demonstrate knowledge of compliance with regulatory systems.
5. Assess various methods and tools of evaluation.
6. Examine effective policies and procedures for staffing and scheduling.
Student Learning Objectives:
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Identify current philosophies and organizational structures of ECE programs, and develop a purpose, goals and philosophy of a new program
- Analyze licensing regulations (Title 22) of early childhood programs
- Create a facility design, organization and maintenance that provides a safe and healthy environment for children and their families following licensing requirements
- Differentiate the professional responsibilities and development of a center’s director
- Apply technological skills needed for the administration of an early childhood program.
