Course Description

The nature of critical thinking, models and strategies; common fallacies of reasoning, self-regulation in the thinking process; application of critical thinking to complex issues of life. Not open to students who are enrolled in or have credit in Philosophy 144. UC/CSU 3 units

 

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students will have the ability to:

1. Employ cognitive skills and intellectual dispositions to effectively identify, analyze and evaluate arguments or truth claims.
2. Discover and overcome personal prejudices and biases.
3. Formulate and present convincing reasons in support of conclusions.
4. Explain how to make reasonable decisions about what to believe and what to do.

Enter your SAC login information then find CNSL 144 in your Canvas Dashboard.  If you have trouble logging in, I suggest you change your password. Assignments and Deadlines (Subject to Change)

You will be required to complete two modules each week and the deadlines each week will be consistent: Wednesday, 11:59pm and Saturday, 11:59pm. Work submitted after the deadline is late and will receive ½ credit. Late work will be accepted up to one week after the deadline, up until the final day of class, December 15th.   NOTE: All work is eligible for late submission, EXCEPT Thank You For Arguing quizzes, extra credit opportunities associated with these quizzes and the Group Activity: Lifeboat Exercise. These quizzes/activities will shut down at the deadline and will no longer be accessible for points.
