Meet Your Instructor: I hail from Boyle Heights Los Angeles. Born and raised in Los Angeles and a son of two wonderful parents from Mexico. I studied at CSULA, Colorado State University, and UC Irvine while emphasizing my studies in water resources topics. I am licensed as a Professional Engineer and have obtained my Land Surveyor in Training certificate. I am currently working towards obtaining a license as a Professional Land Surveyor. My love falls under three disciplines, STEAM, STEAM and STEAM. I enjoy working with folks at all age levels and have been blessed with an opportunity to make an impact, locally, regionally and hopefully globally with funds awarded to our TECH team via NSF ATE funds (Award Letter 1801188). I love hands on projects, and love to teach and practice land surveying, while utilizing advanced forms of equipment. I also enjoy the tedious mathematical gymnastics one endures to get to an answer using advanced math topics. In all, i'm just truly blessed. See you all soon, and let's have some FUN!!!!

Course Description: The course applies theory and principles of plane surveying: office computations and design; operation of surveying field equipment; and production of engineering plans/maps. Topics include distances, angles, and directions; differential leveling; traversing; property/boundary surveys; topographic surveys/mapping; volume/earthwork; horizontal and vertical curves; land description techniques; and GPS. Extensive field work using tapes, levels, transits, theodolites, total stations, and GPS. Assists in passing the land surveyor-in-training exam.

Student Learning Objectives: By the end of the semester, the student will learn how to communicate while using land surveying terminologies, how to tackle simple but practical surveying problems by hand, will obtain the necessary basic hands on skills to properly use surveying equipment while performing field work, will be familiar with the LSIT requirements, and will have an opportunity to design and present a technical project.
