Course Description:
Nutrition and Fitness is an applied nutrition course to improve the nutrition and health of active individuals. The course will focus on lifestyle, disease prevention, fitness, weight control, and the basic concepts of good nutrition.
Course Materials:
This course uses digital course materials designed using Open Educational Resources<https://www.sac.edu/oer> (OER), high-quality, openly licensed educational materials, rather than a traditional textbook. You can access all readings, videos, quizzes and other activities through our course site on Canvas. (http://rsccd.instructure.com<http://rsccd.instructure.com/>)

- Carbohydrates and Fiber.
- Energy and Performance.
- Weight control and body composition.
- Vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, and antioxidants.
Course Learning Objectives:
- Describe the four lifestyle factors and their relationship to lifestyle diseases.
- Understand how cardiovascular disease develops and how to identify its’ major risk factors.
- Describe the macronutrients and identify healthy food sources that contain them.
- Develop a meal plan that provides an appropriate quantity and balance of the macronutrients.
- To understand the effects of nutrition and its relation to physical performance.
- Identify and define the five health-related components of fitness.
- Discuss the factors involved in healthy weight management and improved body composition.
- Describe lifestyle adjustments to enhance overall health and fitness.
- Plan methods of applying nutrition knowledge to your lifestyle.
Student Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Record and document their eating behaviors and formulate appropriate nutritional strategies.
- Discriminate between the classes of nutrients and understand their role in the production of energy and sustaining good health.
