Course Description:  Welcome to the world of moms, babies, and families. This semester will be full of many new concepts about the life phase of childbearing, growth and development, and pediatrics. The clinical experiences that you encounter each week will have direct application to the theoretical content.

1. Communication & Information Management
   The student will examine communication skills and technology to support decision-making, education, and documentation of care related to family health concepts.

This student learning outcome is achieved by completing the following objectives
a. Examine effective verbal and non-verbal therapeutic communication         
b. Create a simple health teaching plan that provides for prevention, maintenance,    
          and rehabilitation. 

2. Thinking/Reasoning & Life Skills
   The student will compare the nursing process and best current evidence to provide safe care related to family health concepts while advocating for patients and families across the lifespan.
   
   This student learning outcome is achieved by completing the following objectives.
3. a. Utilize concepts of the nursing process while integrating environmental, cultural, spiritual and psychosocial influences
4. b. Relate relevant theoretical concepts to patient care
5. c. Differentiate delegation of care between the student nurse and the healthcare team

3. Careers, Civic Responsibility & Diversity 
   The student will evaluate accountability and responsibility for nursing practice, employing professionalism in the role of the Registered Nurse.
   
   This student learning outcome is achieved by completing the following objectives
4. a. Demonstrate accountability and responsibility for increasing complex patient care implementations within appropriate legal and ethical parameters. 
5. b. Use appropriate behaviors of the Associate Degree Nursing student with increasing understanding of professional role progression.
6. c. Demonstrate actions appropriate to the nurse’s role as patient advocate.
