Catalogue Course Description: An efficient, full body strength workout utilizing large stability ball and a variety of resistance equipment. In addition, the student will also gain a better understanding of their overall fitness, exercise regime and dietary habits.
Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course students will be able to:
- Apply course vocabulary and concepts to create personal goals.
- Analyze and assess how health/fitness scenarios can be incorporated into one’s everyday lifestyle.
- Choose and monitor appropriate intensity level and technique to accomplish stability ball goals.
Course Requirements: All Students are required to attend class on a regular basis. 5 Points will be given to students on a daily basis for meeting the following requirements.
- Attending class ON TIME
- Staying the allotted time period
- Participation
- You must be an active participant for 75% of the class time
Assignments:
- *4 Beneficial Exercises (20 points): You and a classmate will present to the class and provide a picture printout and an explanation on paper of 4 exercises. You will explain how these exercises are performed and why you chose them as your favorite. These can be exercises we have practiced in class or exercises you have learned elsewhere. Due: Presentations will begin after Thanksgiving Break.
- Final (20 points): Students will perform four (4) muscle strength/endurance exercise related to fitness: push-ups, sit-ups, wall sit and plank. Intermediate students are expected to score between Good and Excellent on rubric skills. Due: Finals Week.
*Important Dates: TUESDAY, November 20th. We will not be meeting as a class but you will be meeting with your team of two to prepare and research the 4 Beneficial Exercises assignment (see above).
Grading: Grading will be based on the following:
32 class meetings x 5 points = 160 points
5 Beneficial Exercises = 20 points
Final = 20 points
Total Points = 200
Grading Scale: A=90%-100%
B=80%-89%
C=70%-79%
D=60%-69%
F=59% and below
Class Attire/Procedure: Students are required to wear proper exercise attire such as: shorts sweat pants, t-shirts, and tennis shoes. Jeans, flip flops, and other inappropriate clothing are prohibited and if worn, you will be counted absent for the day. Hand wraps are preferred for this class but not mandatory. You may bring your own jump rope if the ones provided are not sufficient. Students are expected to help set up and clean up the class every week. Please arrive promptly and do your part.
