Course Description
Introduction to computer hardware components, software applications, multimedia, and the use of the Internet.
Student Learning Outcomes
- The student will practice on current computer applications with accuracy.
- The student will demonstrate thinking and reasoning through appropriate responses on assignments given based on the written content and class discussion.
- Students will gain computer knowledge and skills useful in public and private business and other related opportunities.
Attendance Policy
In accordance with the college drop policy, students who do not submit the first assignment on Canvas by the due date of the first week of instruction will be dropped as a “No Show”. Excessive Absence is two consecutive weeks of non-participation by the student (submitting assignments and completing quizzes – logging in only does NOT count as participation) or a total of 4 absences during the first 12 weeks of the semester. Students are responsible to officially drop the class or they will receive a letter grade based on their performance.
Communication
The primary source of communication in this course will be through the general questions discussion board on Canvas. I’ll be participating in all discussion boards. Please email me if you have any other questions at morgan_adam@sac.edu. I respond to emails within 48 hours Monday through Friday. Emails received over the weekend will be answered on Monday.
Cell Phones
Turn them off or put them on vibrate. Make sure you disable anything on your phone that would make noise, alarms, ring tones, text messaging.
Assignments /Assessments
See Dates on the course calendar. All work is submitted through Canvas. No late work is accepted. All assignments are due the following Sunday at midnight.
Discussion Boards are worth 10 points. 4 Points for your initial post, which must be written by Wednesday night each week. After that, respond to two other classmate’s posts by Sunday at midnight. The two responses are with 3 points each. All responses should answer the questions, using 2-5 sentences. Remember to look at the netiquette rules before using the discussion board. A link to the netiquette rules is on our course home page. Please see the “How are Assignments Graded” link in the Course Information section on Canvas for more info.
Quizzes are worth 10 Points. Each quiz has 5 questions, worth 2 points each. You may complete these at home using your computer, or if there is time at the end of class. Do not attempt a quiz during lecture.
Final Exam is worth 100 Points. It will be 50 questions worth 2 points each.
Testing and Grading
90% - 100% 540 – 600 Points A
80% - 89% 480 – 539 Points B
70% - 79% 420 – 479 Points C
60% - 69% 360 – 419 Points D
0% - 59% 0-359 Points F
Deadlines
All assignments including quizzes must be completed by the date listed on Canvas. See the assignment schedule for details. Assignments are due on Sunday evenings at Midnight.
Honesty/Integrity Policy
Academic dishonesty or cheating is defined as an intentional act of fraud in which a student seeks to claim credit for the work or efforts of another without authorization. This includes assisting other students in acts of dishonesty or coercing students into acts of dishonesty, whether it is in coursework or on exams. There is absolutely NO tolerance for cheating in this class. Any student caught cheating or assisting another student in the act of cheating, will receive an “F” grade for that assignment.
Course Site (Canvas)
Our course can be accessed at http://rsccd.instructure.com. Link at top of sac.edu web site. The student is expected to monitor the Canvas web site for announcements, updates, and complete all assignments on a time schedule. Students are expected to login at least once a week to view posting of next assignment, submit assignment, AND complete quizzes.

Online Learning Preparation & Expectations
This course is geared for students who are self-directed, able to manage their time, and have basic computer skills. It is mandatory to be able to use the Internet and type all assignments. Complete the “SAC Student Online Orientation” under “My Organizations” on the Canvas home page to become familiar with using Canvas. This is a college level course. Many students expect that an online course will be easier or entail less time. That is NOT true. This online class will take just as much time as a traditional classroom course. This course is 1.5 units.

A student with a disability, who would like to request an academic accommodation, is responsible for identifying herself/himself to the instructor and to the Disabled Student Programs and Services (DSPS).
