Course Description:
Examination of the development of social identities in diverse societies, and implications of oppression and privilege, as they apply to young children, families, programs, classrooms, and teaching. Classroom strategies will be explored emphasizing culturally and linguistically appropriate anti-bias approaches, self-examination, and reflection on issues related to social identity, stereotypes and bias, social and educational access, media, and schooling.

Weekly Video Discussions- @ 2 points each X 11 chapters (22 points) You will watch a (one) video per week (on Canvas) based on your assigned group letter. Then, you will add a short summary and your thoughts on Canvas. This is due before the class. After you enter information about your video, you will engage in a group discussion with the other three group members. All components must be completed for full credit. No partial credit given.

Weekly Attendance/ Participation Points - @ 10 points each X 6 weeks (60 points) – On time arrival (6:30pm) and on time departure (9:40 pm). No partial points given for excused/unexcused absences/late.
Interviews- @ 2 points each X 6 weeks (12 points)- You will research information about the given topic and interview two people from two different age groups and upload a written report on to Canvas.
Website Research - @ 2 points each X 6 weeks (12 points)- You will research the given websites and upload a written report to Canvas.
Anti-Bias Curriculum- @ 2 points each 6 plans( 12 points)- You will complete 6 lesson plans based on different ‘isms’ and upload them on to canvas.
My Cultural Passport-3 points -Complete a short video or power point (information is provided on Canvas)
Project Implicit – 3 points. Complete the questionnaire and bring the results to class for discussion.
Final Paper – 4 points
