Attendance Policy
In accordance with the college drop policy, students who do not attend the first 2 meetings, and submit the first assignment on Canvas by the due date of the first week of instruction will be dropped as a “No Show”. Excessive Absence is two consecutive weeks of non-participation by the student (submitting assignments and completing quizzes – logging in only does NOT count as participation) or a total of 4 absences during the first 12 weeks of the semester. Students are responsible to officially drop the class or they will receive a letter grade based on their performance.
- Attendance - You are expected to attend all class sessions. College policy states that a student may be dropped for nonattendance. Students are responsible for officially withdrawing from classes they do not plan to complete. Under extenuating circumstances a student may be reinstated by contacting the instructor. Extenuating circumstances may include verified cases of accident, illness, or death in the family and other conditions beyond the control of the student.
- Absences—Because of enrollment demand, students are normally dropped when they do not appear for the first class meeting. A student may be dropped for excessive absences when one or more than the number of class hours per week has occurred (or 3 to 5 consecutive absences and you are dropped.) It is your responsibility to check the class schedule for important dates regarding holidays and drop dates. If you must be absent from a class, it is also your responsibility to get class notes, handouts, and/or directions from a classmate.

Honesty/Integrity Policy
Academic dishonesty or cheating is defined as an intentional act of fraud in which a student seeks to claim credit for the work or efforts of another without authorization. This includes assisting other students in acts of dishonesty or coercing students into acts of dishonesty, whether it is in coursework or on exams. There is absolutely NO tolerance for cheating in this class. Any student caught cheating or assisting another student in the act of cheating, will receive an “F” grade for that assignment.
In cases where a violation of academic honesty is discovered, the faculty member is encouraged to file an "Academic Misconduct Incident Report" form and distribute the form to the appropriate offices listed.
There are two categories of sanctions: Limited and College-wide. Limited sanctions include an academic action such as assigning a lower grade or a grade of "F" for the assignment, project, or test. College-wide sanctions include any sanction that will affect a student's standing with the college-at-large, up to and including suspension or expulsion from the college.
Course Site (Canvas)
Our course can be accessed at http://rsccd.instructure.com. Link at top of sac.edu web site. The student is expected to monitor the Canvas web site for announcements, updates, and complete all assignments on a time schedule. Students are expected to login at least once a week to view posting of next assignment, submit assignment, AND complete quizzes.
Canvas Questions and Issues
If you have any trouble logging in or with Canvas, please contact the instructor. As a secondary means of contact, you may use the Distance Education website for further details or any help using Bb: http://sac.edu/disted. If necessary, contact them directly at (714) 564-6725 or room A-101
Online Learning Preparation & Expectations
This course is geared for students who are self-directed, able to manage their time, and have basic computer skills. It is mandatory to be able to use the Internet and type all assignments. Complete the “SAC Student Online Orientation” under “My Organizations” on the Canvas home page to become familiar with using Canvas. This is a college level course. Many students expect that an online course will be easier or entail less time. That is NOT true. This online class will take just as much time as a traditional classroom course. This course is 4 units!
Accommodations for Disabilities
A student with a disability, who would like to request an academic accommodation, is responsible for identifying herself/himself to the instructor and to the Disabled Student Programs and Services (DSPS). To make arrangements for academic accommodations, contact the Physical Disability Center in Johnson Center, U-103, or phone (714) 564-6264, TTY (714) 564-6284 for a referral to the appropriate SAC DSPS Department.
Cell Phones
Please turn off (or set to vibrate) all cell phones while in class. The first time you forget you will be forgiven; subsequent infractions will result in your being asked to leave for the rest of the class.
