Grading:

Exams (100 points each) = 300 points

Marketing Analysis = 100 points

Attendance/Participation/Quizzes/Exercises = 100 points

Total = 500 points

Final Course Grades:

A = 450 – 500 points (90 – 100%)

B = 400 – 449 points (80 – 89.9%)

C = 350 – 499 points (70 – 79.9%)

D = 300 – 349 points (60 – 69.9%)

F = 299 points or less (below 60%)

Exams

Will be a combination of multiple-choice, True/False, Short Answer and Short Essay questions.

Course Objectives

The purpose of this course is to introduce you (the student) to the wonderful world of business. Upon completing this course, you should have a solid understanding of numerous business topics, including:

  • Can you generally describe the Unites States business system?
  • What are some legal aspects faced by firms and what are their social responsibilities?
  • What are some basic topics for discussing international business?
  • What are the major forms of business ownership?
  • What are the major challenges of business management, particularly leadership and human resources?
  • How do businesses market products and services?
  • How do businesses disclose finances? How is financial information reported to the public?
  • What is the role of money and banking in the economy? How do securities markets function?
  • Can you make an informed decision about a college major or a business career?

Student Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to recognize and identify basic forms of business ownership. Students will be able to formulate a relationship between business and its environment, including its legal and ethical responsibilities. Students will learn to think critically about business topics, understanding the relationship between marketing, management, and finance.

Transferability and Degrees

This course transfers to both the University of California and California State University, and many other four-year institutions. Business 100 is a required course for Associates Degrees in Business Administration, Business Management, and General Management.

Exams: there are no make-up exams.

Attendance: Miss more than three discussions and/or assignments and you will be dropped. Please don’t rely on the instructor to drop you from the class if you stop attending. It is your responsibility to drop the course if you stop attending.

Education: M.B.A., Purdue University (2011); B.S., U.C. Riverside (1999)
