Meet Your Instructor:

Hello! My name is Song Hong, your ESL instructor. I'm so excited to start this adventurous journey with you. Language learning seems like a daunting task, however, with enough enthusiasm and effort, I believe you can achieve your goal of becoming a fluent communicator in English. I'm here to help you anyway possible. Other than teaching, I enjoy traveling and experiencing new cultures. I currently live in Fullerton, CA and teach at Santa Ana College and Saddleback College. Let's have a wonderful semester!

Course Description: 

Third course of the academic ESL track program developing academic skills through reading one-page multi-paragraph authentic or adapted texts, writing well-developed paragraphs, grammar, listening, and speaking skills with short informational and narrative passages. Five high school elective credits may be granted if student passes the course successfully. Open Entry/Open Exit.

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs):

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to

  • Apply knowledge of basic cohesive devices to interpret the meaning and structure of a one-page, multi-paragraph authentic or adapted text.
  • Write a well-developed paragraph that includes a topic sentence, supporting detail, and a conclusion.
  • Identify a speaker’s purpose or points of emphasis in a recorded message.
  • Identify and evaluate statements of fact and opinion, using simple discourse markers of opinion.
  • Fill out online forms requiring information on varied topics.
