Psychology 157 Syllabus
Course Description: Survey of human development from conception through adolescence. Covers major theories development (cognition, perception, language, personality, social, etc.) and their application to parenting, teaching, and other interactions with children.

Course Learning Objectives:
♦ Identify and describe classic and contemporary theories and research in child psychology
♦ Contrast and compare developmental theories and approaches (including research and applications)
♦ Analyze elements of a scientific approach to understanding human development
♦ Identify biological, psychological, and sociocultural influences on child development
♦ Describe psychological principles and research and how this apply to real world child development
♦ Describe the sequences of physical, social, and cognitive development in childhood.
♦ Identify and describe the methods used by developmental psychologists to study child development.
♦ Identify possible causes or sources of developmental change and reasons for disturbances in the developmental process
