Course Description:
- This class is designed to improve your skills in creating strong sentences and developing cohesive paragraphs for the academic setting. To achieve these goals, the class will focus on grammar, sentence structure, and composing paragraphs while using the writing process. Through in-class workshops and lectures, you will gain an understanding of these concepts and begin to develop your ability to plan successful and detailed written assignments. These written assignments will emphasize the above mentioned ideas and composition skills such as expository and argumentative writing. These methods of composition will be used in your future coursework.
Textbook Information:
- Writing First, Paragraphs and Essays - Sixth Edition by Laurie G. Kirszner and Stephen R. Mandell
Student Learning Objectives:
- Students will be able to read critically for literal meaning and identify the main idea of a reading and the author’s writing strategies.
- Students will use the writing process to write, in proper MLA format, well-organized, supported paragraphs or short essays using appropriately chosen details, sentence variety, and sufficiently correct grammar and punctuation.
Learning Center Location and Hours:
Location: Dunlap Hall, D-307
The hours for the Learning Center this semester are as follows:
Monday and Thursday: 9:00 A.M. - 7:00 P.M.
Friday: 10:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M.
Saturday: 12:00 P.M. - 3:00 P.M.
Learning Center Sign Up Process:
Below are the steps to sign up for the Learning Center:
1) Log in to WebAdvisor using your log in information.
2) Click on the link to register for classes.
3) Select the following term: 2018 SPN.
4) Select the following location: CEC - Centennial Education Center.
5) Type in the following section number: 52079.
6) This section number should bring up LRN 095 which will allow you to attend the Learning Center on campus for your DLAs.
7) Click Submit.
This process should be completed as soon as possible as I will be checking at the end of Week 2 to see if you have registered.
