Course Description: A combined course in algebra that includes systems of equations: inequalities; graphs and functions; radicals; quadratic polynomials; rational expressions; exponential and logarithmic functions; problem solving. Prerequisite: Math N48 or pass the qualifying exam.
Textbook Information: Elementary and Intermediate Algebra 3rd edition, Sullivan, Struve, Mazzarella, Pearson.
Additional Course Information: You can either use the hard covered textbook or the e-version of the text. The e-version is included in the MyLabsPlus software.
- Software: MyLabsPlus-Required as all algebra assignments will be done and turned in within this program.
- Workbook: Strategies for Success, Second Edition, Marecek, Anthony-Smith, Pearson Education.
- Calculator: A scientific calculator such as a TI-30 II-S is recommended. Ti-84 calculators are permitted.
- Notebook: Please prepare your notebook according to the directions given in the Notebook Preparation worksheet (p.3) in Strategies for Success.
Course Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course:
- Students will be able to correctly apply properties of logarithms and solve logarithmic equations by the end of the semester.
- Students will be able to correctly solve linear systems of three equations and three unknowns by the end of the semester.
