Meet Your Instructor: Hello Class, I, Purnima Jain, will be your instructor for PSYC 100 Introduction to Psychology. I did M.A. and M.S. in Psychology from University of Delhi, India, and California State University, Fullerton, respectively. As a student, I have enjoyed those classes where class instructors have helped the students understand the relevance of a topic in our daily living. Hence, my aim is to develop a class environment that would allow the students understand the implications of a topic in todays' world. Hence, apart from powerpoint presentations, the study materials would also include handouts from class activities and group presentations.
Course Description: Addresses principles of research, perception, development, learning, motivation, emotion, and abnormal behavior. Emphasizes application of psychological principles to personal adjustment.
Textbook Information:
- Grison, Heatherton, & Gazzaniga (2017) 2nd Edition. Psychology in Your Life. Notron.
- Students must bring textbook materials to class in order to participate in classroom activities. Students who fail to bring their textbook may lose class points. Textbook is also on reserve at the library.

Course Learning Objectives: 1. Demonstrate knowledge of major psychological concepts, historical and theoretical perspective, research findings and current trends. 2. Identify, and understand the implication of the psychological concepts in our day-to-day lives. 3. Through oral and written communication students will demonstrate critical thinking, identify and interpret different arguments and persuasive appeals.
Student Learning Objectives: This class would help the students develop a basic understanding of human behavior. Students will learn and apply concepts like cognition, intelligence, emotions through class activities. Students will also be able to compare and contrast different theories under a topic, and critically evaluate their implication in today's world.
