COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Introductory course in Quality Control operations. Course includes dimensional inspection, completion of inspection reports, training and expectations for various quality inspector positions, as well as an introduction to various quality concepts that support inspection positions

 

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Students will be able to:

  • Complete a first piece inspection and provide guidance to production department on dimensions out of tolerance.
  • Demonstrate basic inspection techniques relevant to each of the inspection positions to be covered during the course
  • Demonstrate understanding of quality system requirements and how to maintain system compliance
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of documentation relating to inspections, calibrations, non-conformance, and other Quality System functions.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with various quality tools as well as concepts such as Quality Auditing, SPC, and Lean Manufacturing

 

ASSIGNMENTS:

You will have reading and homework assignments using the textbook and other sources.  Homework assignments must be completed before the next class meeting unless you are given a different due date.  Late homework assignments may or may not be accepted at the option of the instructor. If late homework is accepted by the instructor it is subject to point reduction at the instructor’s discretion.

In addition you will have assignments in class. The class has been designed to give you the amount of time necessary to complete all required in class assignments. Please be sure to listen to directions and follow them as instructed to ensure you are able to complete each assignment.

ATTENDANCE:

Attendance at all class meetings is required.  If you miss more than three days of class you may be dropped from the class with an F grade.  Arriving late and leaving early may be recorded as absences.  If you miss more than twelve hours of class time as a result of arriving late or leaving early, you will be dropped from the class with an F grade.

 

 

PARTICIPATION AND WORK HABITS:

All students must participate in the class. This includes: following instructions, using lab procedures as demonstrated, following safety rules, working safely and participating in the cleanup period at the end of the class as needed.  Failure to comply with these procedures will result in a lowered final grade.

School Computers and internet access are provided to enable and support student education and assignments. Inappropriate use of school computers and or internet websites will not be tolerated and may be cause for loss of points or even dismissal from the course.

Cell phones and electronic devices are to be turned to silent or vibrate modes to prevent disturbance of classroom activities. In the event of important or emergency calls the student is to step out of the machine shop or classroom. Cell phones are NOT to be used when at a machine in the machine shop. Inappropriate use of cell phones will not be tolerated and may be cause for loss of points or even dismissal from the course.

 

CLASS DROP PROCEDURE:

If you wish to drop the course for any reason you must drop the course through the admissions office.  Failure to do so will result in an F grade for the semester.it is the responsibility of the student to ensure that you are properly dropped from the course.

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY POLICY:

It is cheating when you share test answers with another student.  It is cheating when you make a project for another student.  It is cheating to use a machine that another student has setup.  Remember that you are here to acquire new knowledge and new skills.  You are not here to get good grades without getting the new skills.  When you do not do your own work and your own setups, you are not learning the new skills you came here for.

Cheating will result in an F grade for the activity involved.

Repeated cheating will result in you being dropped from the class with an F grade.

When two people are involved, both the person asking and the person answering are cheating. Both individuals will receive a zero score for that test or project on which cheating occurred.  Repeated incidents of cheating or cheating on the Final Exam and/or the Final Project will result in an F for the semester grade.
