Course Description:
Intermediate weight training is designed for students to increase their knowledge and skills competence in large muscle area development utilizing free weights. Individualized exercise programs are designed to teach students intermediate level strategies and techniques. Development will be in muscle size or tone and strength or endurance.
Course Learning Objectives:
- Perform intermediate weight training exercises with good form and thought given to safety.
- Express the health-related components fitness and the relationship to a weight training program.
- Improve total body muscle strength/endurance through weight training activities.
- Develop a balanced weight training program that will meet the goals and objectives of the student.
- Define fundamental principles and terminology of weight training.
- Label 10 – 15 major muscle groups utilized in weight training.
- Record the activity done during weight training including the lifts, weights, sets, and reps.
- Act, interact, and react to others with appropriate weight training etiquette and safety behaviors.
Student Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate proficiency in weight training techniques.
- Describe the role of weight training for health promotion and discriminate between the benefits of weight training and various other fitness activities.
